Science Reception
This position will be part of the Science Reception Lab at ZPID. We investigate how the scientific system, researchers, and scientific evidence are perceived by the public and what challenges and promotes the effective and appropriate dissemination of science. In particular, this position could focus on perceptions and consequences of expert trespassing (i.e., when researchers comment on issues beyond their area of expertise) or related topics.
Your profile:
- MSc in psychology (very good grade)
- Experience in experimental research, incl. statistical analysis
- Strong interest in social psychological research, especially in science reception and trust in science, prior knowledge desirable but not necessary
- Strong intrinsic motivation to deeply understand new topics and conduct thorough, high-quality research
- Profound English language skills (spoken and written)
- You are cooperative and team-oriented
Please get in touch with Dr. Marlene Altenmüller (ma@leibniz-psychology.org) for further information on this position.
Psychological Meta-science
This position is part of the Psychological Meta-Science lab at ZPID. Some of the key foci of this lab include the biases that are part of psychological research process, with a particular focus on the so-called researcher degrees of freedom; the replicability and reliability of findings of psychological research, especially in meta-analyses; researcher profiles and the factors that affect researcher careers in psychology. The successful candidate use the data available at ZPID to investigate one of these or related topics.
Your profile:
- MSc in psychology, ideally with focus on social psychology
- Experience in quantitative research and data analysis; experience with meta-analysis is a plus
- Strong interest in psychological methods and statistics
- Experience with, or strong motivation to learn statistical programming with R

Big Data in Psychology
This position will be part of the Big Data Lab at ZPID. We study human behavior across massive and complex datasets, including social media, large-scale experiments, and high-resolution dynamic recordings (e.g., neuroimaging). For this position, research topics could focus on advancing deep neural networks for studying psychological phenomena (e.g., morality, hate-speech, etc.) particularly in multi-lingual, multi-modal datasets; apply pattern recognition techniques to predict real-world behaviors; or related areas combining Big Data with social and moral psychology.
Your profile:
- MSc in psychology, computational social science, or computer science
- Experience in Python, R, or MATLAB; statistical or spatio-temporal modelling; knowledge of Linux/bash is a plus
- Strong interest in social/moral psychology, natural language processing, computer vision, and deep learning
- Strong motivation to analyze large datasets, including text, audiovisual, behavior, and fMRI.
- Profound English language skills (spoken and written)
- You have an interdisciplinary mindset, thrive in a collaborative lab, and enjoy building research infrastructure
